Poltava Party of Regions Office Burned Down
Ukrains’ka Pravda, February 8, 2014, 18:00 (Translation by William Risch)
Early Saturday morning unknown assailants burned down a building of the Party of Regions (PR) city organization in Poltava.
Ukrains’ki Novyny reports this news from the Poltava Region’s State Emergency Services.
The fire was not mentioned in the daily summary of events that the State Emergency Services (Sluzhba DerzhNS) reports on its website.
According to reports, emergency crew members were alerted about the fire at 4:10 a.m. on February 8; the fire’s epicenter was in the storage room for the PR city organization headquarters.
As a result of the fire, two windows, PR symbols, party flags and Ukrainian national flags, and over 600 wooden poles for flags burned.
Around 1,000 wooden poles, 200 sweaters, and 100 T-shirts with Party of Regions symbols were damaged.
State Emergency Services workers raised the possibility that, based on the damages that had occurred, the cause of the fire was arson.
As the press release states, “the fire did not prevent the PR city organization’s leadership from conducting a large meeting of its followers near the Regional State Administration Building.”
